Gable end roof construction if the pitched roof is not a lean to but a normal gable roof we have to divide the total roof span by two in order to form two right angle triangles back to back.
How to start a pitched roof.
You can start from the bottom of roof and move upward towards the roof top.
If your eave is one straight length then pick an end and work to the other.
1 2 the total span is equal to the horizontal span that one rafter will cover.
After gathering all required materials and tools it s time to start the construction process for your pitched roof.
Express roof pitch as the ratio of the amount of the vertical rise of a roof or rise over the corresponding horizontal distance or run you write the pitch assuming a run of 12 inches thus the ratio would describe how much a roof rises for each foot of the run.
The 2 by 4 should be about 2 feet longer than the tarp width.
I show how i construct it showning in detail how to do the lead flashing.
This ice and water membrane is typically applied to overhang the eaves by 1 4 3 4.
As a rule of thumb you will first need to build the walls and floor before you can start to build the shed trusses.
So let s say a roof rises 6 inches for every 12 inches in depth towards the peak.
Then fold the excess tarp under a few rotations for a tight clean fit.
At this time any valleys on the roof should also be flashed with an ice and water membrane.
You can build your own shed trusses by using a standard jig.
Use a roofing nail 1 to tack the drip edge down one every 10 when placing two pieces of drip edge together overlap one end over the other by 1 and secure using two roofing nails one in the back and one in the front.
That is to say the roof pitch expressed as a ratio tells you how many inches the roof rises for every 12 inches of depth.
Next on the peak side attach the tarp to the 2 by 4 using cap nails.
Screw the 2 by 4 directly into the roof to secure it.
One thing you have to be careful is to install one row at a time so that it can be done in appropriate manner.
By knowing the span of the roof and the pitch the pitch is the angle at which the rafters rise we can work out the length of the rafters.
To be fully effective it should extend up the roof to a point at least 24 inside the vertical extension of the interior side of the wall.
As aforementioned there is no standard pitch of a roof.
Completing all the rows till top of room will complete your pitched room.
